How to Find Peace During a Toddler Tempest

If you’re a mama of a toddler, you know the moments can become unannounced and roll into rogue waves. Splash, crash, slap…in your face!

Today, my little girl was calm and happy then, boom! Fits of thunder followed her rogue wave of tiredness. For about 30 minutes she cried until she laid her head onto her mattress. Her mood then floated on soft rippled water.

As a mom of a toddler, how do you “seek shelter” in those 30 minutes (or more) of crying chaos?

As moms, how should we adjust the ship instruments to “weather the storm”.

What do you seek through the binoculars while winds and waves envelop the “houseboat”?

First, we should always seek God. Trace and pin-point your map in the captain’s quarters. Seek God’s eternal treasures of peace and contentment. If you use the compass bestowed by the Father, the true bright “X” will vivaciously appear.

Even though you feel that you’re at the helm of hopelessness, keep reaching for binoculars. Peer through them and fixate on solid ground. Look for the smooth sands of spirituality. Then, pray, “ahoy!” God, set my direction towards the red “X” of everlasting emeralds…eternal thoughts.

Adjust your sails and ropes to weather the toddler tantrums and white-capped waves of wondering. Tie down the hatches with hope. Batten down the stern and bow of your house.  Batten down your thoughts with peaceful “cloud-pop” thoughts.

Therefore, when the rogue waves form from toddler tempests or life in general, act as a noble captain and have faith. Grab your binoculars and set your eyes on eternal shores, the never fading “X”, to remind yourself of the true kingdom. Mamas, don’t forget to poise yourself with Captain orders and grace. Move with confidence to ready the ship. Open your compass and follow God through the storm. You will find tranquility within the lighting tumult.
