How ‘Spontaneous Snippets’ Creates Engagement in a Child’s Life
As we were strolling the isles, more clouds were settling in and puffing into possible pesters.
As we strolled the frozen section, I started to hear the rain fall with feisty force. I thought to my ‘mom self’, “We’re going to be stuck inside for a while and I need to get my daughter back home for a nap.”
Instead of getting puffed up and upset, we continued browsing while my little girl jib-jabbed amongst Summer dresses.
We then arrived at the garden center to leave, the clouds continued to tip over their watering cans.
In that moment, I decided to have a ‘spontaneous snippet’. As my little girl looked at me, I said, “Let’s go!” I ran the basket through the rain while we both arched smiles like a rainbow after a storm. I laughed as the rain graced our hair and memory.
As a mom of a toddler, I’m learning to create ‘spontaneous snippets’ that sprinkle the day with fun puddles. Your child will look at their reflection in the puddle, and see a joyous and engaged childhood.
What can you do as a parent to prod ‘spontaneous snippets’?
- Blow up the forgotten pool that’s been hidden in the shed, and surprise your child in the morning with a backyard splash park. (Beach balls, popsicles, water balloons, water guns, etc.) The surprise will glow like sunshine onto a child’s face.
- Make an effort to engage with your child. When your little one asks you to play basketball with them after you arrive home from work…shoot, dribble, laugh, and spontaneously pass. Your child will ‘dunk’ back into the past, and feel hugs of engagement and sacrifice.
Ultimately, notice your child. When you notice details of their surroundings and their sea-glass eyes inquiring, you can connect with freeness. You will involuntarily film memorable snippets that become mind reels.
Go throughout each day and remember to engage in your child, then join the moment. When you do, your godly instincts will “dance in the rain” and never wane. ‘Spontaneous snippets’ will umbrella your child with love and excitement.
