Don’t Creep Pass the Wrong Way Sign
Ephesians 4:26
As parents, many days start bright-eyed and clear like glass cleaned with Windex. But then, later in the day, our toddlers shake their head “No!” with ferocity, fling their food, fork, and pink toothbrush. A seemingly dust-free day that was clean of stress, starts to build a film of anger and aggravation.
Doubtfully drained, we find ourselves standing in front of a blurry “Wrong Way” sign. As parents, we are at the “stick line drawn in the dirt” about to lean over into angered sinning (yelling, aggravating tones, and harshness).
What should we do if we find ourselves about to creep pass this sinful sign?
Pray: Parents…everyone, stay in prayer and dwell in Jesus’ peaceful palace. Meditate upon God day and night. The Holy Spirit will meet you at the “Wrong Way” sign and He will convict our steps. Then, we will gracefully turn around and head back into the righteous direction.
Get your lazy head out of bed in the morning to read the Bible (Yes, it’s true, because I too, need to do this daily.): As parents, we need to first and foremost feed ourselves spiritually. If we fail to “Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven” then our day will be full of “Wrong Way” signs everywhere we turn…by couple arguments, picketed by tantrums, staked by tense evenings, and ultimately hoisted by Satan himself.
And do not give the devil a foothold.
Ephesians 4:27
Admit you’re weak: We are feeble beings. We need God and His Holy strength. Our flesh is fast to sin, whether it be in anger or personalized temptations. Satan loves to slide sneaky footholds under our feet, propping them up at the distorted sign…”Wrong Way”. So, we need to admit we’re weak because God’s power activates in our weakness.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9
So, parents…everyone, don’t creep past the Wrong Way sign and stumble into regretful darkness. Throw Satan’s stool into the ditch, and turn around and follow the Holy Spirit into rightness. Stay sunbathing in the steady morning light parachuting through a Windex window. Stay sober minded and “sober-eyed”.
