Coffee Minute Moment with Mama Mare: Oil your Children’s Gears
While I was there, I saw moms sitting on a bench, looking at their phones and not interacting with their children (don’t misunderstand me, I look at my phone occasionally too.). Although, these moms were intense in their isolation.
As a toddler mom, yes, I get tired and I just want to plop on a bench or the couch for a little while and rest. But, when I intentionally advocate an activity for my little one, I try and stay involved in her presence. I want her to grow and remember that her “mommy” turned the gears of childhood, and made sure they were oiled with active adoration.
If Jesus never manifested into a man and sacrificed Himself for us, we would have never been able to approach the throne boldly. We would be permanently stuck and isolated from his presence. Ah, but thanks to His gearing perfect love for us, he oiled our rusted sin, and we can now twirl in His joyous omnipresence.
If our children never feel the turning of their gears in their lives, they will feel unwanted and alone. If they never see us pick up a bottle of oil to keep them from being solidified in solitude, they will become distantly stagnant.
So, as parents, we need to remember to be Christ-like…sacrificing and active in our children’s lives. When we pick up a small glossy green leaf and put it in their blue jean pocket (as I did today), their childhood gears stay perpetually polished with remembrance of love. When they are older, those memories will help them in all areas of life and their children’s lives.
So, twist, oil, lovingly stear childhood gears.
