Mama Mare Review – Houma/ Thibodaux: Swirling Sweet Story Time at the Lafourche Parish Public Library

For over a month, my little foal and I have paraded to the Lafourche Library (Thibodaux branch) to swirl in the sweetness of story time.

Before the doors open to where moon dreams are dreamt, my little girl sweetly says, “Story time?” She then marches with bounce (a requested dress and a Dr. Suess bow clipped to her curled hair) to the vivid blue carpet bordered with books.

There, children all stand, swirl, and twirl, waiting for the wonder of what’s about to unwrap like stripped Christmas peppermint candy. Story time is sweetened with books read aloud, music videos to dance to, and playtime with an array of gadgets and “elf-made” toys.

Ms. Heather leads story time and guides children to candy lands of tall-tree tales and teachings. She leads children like the Pied Piper through giggling gardens, twirling dance parties, then to toy land where the children play and build friendships.

There are many quality benefits that story time is peppermint-striped with:

-            Beanstalks of friendship are grown weekly within the circle of children, moms or grandmas, and dads.

-            Children learn to listen to and answer questions about the books that are read aloud.

-            Tots grow their imaginations as they climb to the top of beanstalks. They look out upon dreamy and enriching clouds.

-            When music/ dance videos are viewed, twirly and swirly movements bring about joy and exercise that benefits the mind and nap time.

When the doors close to story time and twirling dresses stop like a merry-go-round, toddlers can then bounce their way towards the children/ play areas of the library. Dabbling and fidgeting with trains, blocks, kitchen essentials, and puzzles, can be heard throughout the library like the recent read-aloud words from a happy children’s book. My toddler’s favorite gadget is the neon light board that “Pink!” sparks her imagination and creativity.

When play time noises start to whisper like a butterfly, we then search for books to check out to read at bedtime. My little bookworm grabs this and that titles and I also select a few. We then parade home twirling our book bag in hand like a baton.

The Lafourche Library (Thibodaux) is a whole land of sweet swirliness that grows “Alice in Wonderland” full pansy memories and bonding blue buds.

My toddler and I happily happened upon story time. We walked into the library, and we were told that the doors were about to open to sweet times. We now go every Wednesday at 11:15am.

Since then, we have enjoyed the interaction with other children, the sweet-led leadership, and the twirls amongst magical memory moments.

Story time is held every Wednesday at 11:15am at the Lafourche Parish Public Library – Thibodaux location. Also, check other branch locations for swirling sweet story times.
