Mama Mare POV: Our Interior Designer is a Toddler
Our house is a concert hall,
“Baa, baa, black sheep have you any wool?”
Our house is a theatre stage,
“Ballet? Dress? Twirl?”
Our house is an art gallery,
“Paint? Color? Stickers?”
Little squeaky questions and a one-dimple toddling girl has become our home’s interior designer. She has become the conductor of our homey halls. She has bejeweled each one of our walls with precious purples of purity.
“Look up! Look all around you! All of your children are gathering together and coming to you.” The Lord says, “On my life, I promise you this: Your children will be like jewels that you tie around your neck. Your children will be like the necklace that a bride wears.”
Isaiah 49:18
Our gifted children run through our halls with swags of flowers and jewels and hang them around door posts. They run to us daily, and hang preciousness around our necks.
I believe God blesses us with children to obtain their “interior designer” role to fully finish our interior lives with true satin walled sincerity. When we become “mommies” and “daddies”, our houses become designed with scribbly stick people happiness. Jade jubilance is rolled and brushed onto our hearts…onto our primed walls.
Children throw round pillows on our couches that are frilled and flowered with fullness. Then, they snuggle into our arms and say, “Cozy…books?” (My toddler asks nightly with a solo soprano voice while classic reading music gently orchestrates.)
When the moon is “checked out” (My toddler asks nightly, “Check it out?”) and the sun’s shift begins to shine, my little girl checks in to start decorating and conducting once again.
Children lay oak floors engrained with pink and blue toys and they creak with their rewarding noise; “I love you, Mommy and Daddy.”
Their final touches to designing our homes are lasting fingerprints that leave abstract marks of perfection.
Children; they are perfect gifts from God who become interior designers that rearrange and change our decor. They watercolor and “dip-dip” beige life with Little Tike push popper popping colors.
They forever swag jeweled garlands around our homes and around our necks.
“Children are a gift from the Lord, a reward from a mother’s womb.”
Psalms 127:3
