Coffee Minute Moment with Mama Mare: What Shadow are you Imitating as a Parent?

About a month ago, I captured a picture of my little toddler imitating a fierce firefighter. Her shadow balanced on the pavement with a likeness to bravery.

Even though the firefighter hat would sometimes be situated backwards upon her wavy hair, she still embraced a love for the profession (for a “short toddler time”).

As parents, are we shaping a personal shadow of bravery and balanced life for our children to mimic? Are we enacting a firefighting profession for our children to love and imitate?

Every day, we have a choice to be “anti-fragile”…to be unshaken and dropped; split; cracked. As toddler (and ages beyond) mommies and daddies, we have a choice to shadow God and His strength and calmness. We have a prayerful choice to stand with stability on a balance beam.

When we “keep our lives together” and the fueling fires hosed down in front of our children, their shadows will cartwheel like powerful and soul-stabilizing gymnasts. They will see before them future shadows of water-blasting firefighting strength.

So, if you’re experiencing a power outage (like we did yesterday for six hours) or any other “power issues”; trials, nuisances, aggravations that blow up like transformers, make the godly choice to stay brave like a firefighter. Make a choice to strive and stay balanced like a gold-medal gymnast.

Read God’s word daily to learn and study the outline of His shadow because everything your child witnesses (firefighter or gymnast attitude) will fill and outline their soul-shadow.
