Mama Mare Coffee Minute Moment: Learning to Try and Stay Afloat
I’m learning more and more (especially, as a mom of a toddler and a weak human) to float with the uncontrollable wind…to glide with grace. I’m learning to be like a balloon that was released into the sky, floating towards Heaven a nigh. I’m learning to always trust the working of God’s “air pump” when the day pops.
Yesterday, cracker crumbs led to our “gingerbread house” door. Inside, toys and two-year-old fits were being thrown. Banana peels “pasted” the floors and couch. Ultimately, the word, “no” bloated like my husband’s leftover birthday balloons.
When we left our stale “gingerbread house”, not-so-sweet minutes also maneuvered into the clocked day. In the library parking lot, a sour jawbreaker moment cracked open (after gumdrop sugary moments of playing, reading, and grilled cheese bites). My toddler did not want to hold my hand amongst vicious looking vehicles. So, she collapsed with tousled tone and tempers arose. Her kiddy cup of water fell to the ground and so did my countenance.
As our countenance falls and pops, God’s grace is an awaiting “air pump”. He’s there to continuously pump us up with fresh air. Then, as moms (anyone), we can arise once more and glide along gracefully.
There are days that we are going to fizzle and pop on tacks in our tracks. Tantrum tacks poke our big ballooned demeanor, tacks of temperament two’s prick our shiny layer, and paths of pins obliterate our spirited bounce.
Although we occasionally pop, God is always there to air us up with His power. Again and again, we are blown up with His grace. Endlessly, we balloon and lift off into any-directional winds.
Again and again, holy helium directs our float towards heavenward hopes. We learn to stay afloat over tacks and to maintain spiritual tact.
I’m learning more and more to be like a balloon that has been let go. I’m learning to surrender to the elements and float gracefully in uncharted winds. I’m learning to adapt to trials and hard “jaw breaker” moments. If I pop and fall to the ground, God’s air pump of grace awaits me.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. - Hebrews 4:16
