Mama Mare Coffee Minute Moment: When you don’t know what to pray, just say, “Jesus…Amen.”

Before eating dinner, my toddler pauses for a sweet ketchup moment to pray. Before she eats chicken nuggets swirled with “tomato sauce” (as she calls it), she closes her eyes and simply says, “Jesus…Amen.”

Sometimes, our prayers resemble simple shoots; short and colorless. They seem to fall short. They don’t open into billowing hibiscus-like heavenly hymns. We seem to have “prayer block” due to darkening and compressing circumstances.

So, when you don’t know what to pray, just say, “Jesus.”

When you’re covered under a trial, and it’s too dark to see the details of a prayer…”Jesus.”

When you’re tuckered from checking toddler temperatures and your mind becomes muddled… “Jesus.”

When you’re overcome with daily responsibilities and words seem to be waived…”Jesus.”

When you become stuck in a moment and words are unable to move…”Jesus.”

When you stand over your loved one’s grave and your legs and thoughts collapse…”Jesus.”

When you’re completely lost and lose sight of your prepared prayer…”Jesus.”

As God’s children, when we are like a lost child, at a loss for words, pray as a toddler, “Jesus…Amen.”

God hears all prayers…the billowing hibiscus-like hymn or the one-word cry for help, “Jesus.”

Go to Him even when you don’t have the words.

“Amen.”
